I have a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology (MACP), a Master’s degree in Adult Education (M.Ed) and I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor. I have been training executives, front line employees and counselling individuals, couples and families for over 10 years.
I use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help understand and resolve unconscious patterns and to heal trauma. The first step is self-awareness: you cannot change what you are not aware of or what you don’t acknowledge. Consistent or recurring negative thoughts, overwhelming feelings, impulsive behaviours, pain, dizziness, loss of short-term memory and self-harm are just a few symptoms that therapy can help with. I can help you explore and understand your personal patterns. You can learn how your past influences your present and acquire the tools to continue your emotional growth, heal intergenerational trauma and manage intense emotions, overwhelm and anxiety.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the first step to understanding how your thoughts influence your feelings and how your feelings drive your behaviour. When you understand your own patterns, you can determine what you can control and what you cannot control with less self-judgement. I will help to inform your perspective, show you how to practice strategies for change that will help develop self-confidence, improve self-worth and create the pathway to emotional health. You can overcome obstacles to well-being and improve the quality of your life.
I work mostly on-line and find that it is just as effective as in-person, and allows for the personal privacy and comfort of your own surroundings and the convenience of not commuting. I also offer a 20-minute free consultation to see if there is a good fit and to conceptualize a therapeutic plan.
I was born and raised in Canada with dual Canadian and Irish citizenship and have relocated to Spain. I have personal experience with intergenerational trauma, grief, anxiety and multicultural influences. Growing up in a non traditional family, I learned about other cultures, religions and different ways of being in the world. My career started with training emotional intelligence and communication in the workplace which led to mediation, individual and group counselling and psychotherapy. I also understand what it is like to not know which coping skills are helping and which are hurting and how to make positive changes in one’s own life.
Part of my journey to understanding human behaviour and our connections to each other started with understanding myself and how to heal old wounds, so as not to bring them into my relationships going forward. I have learned that self-care, self-love and counteracting negative thinking are the basis for feeling good, maintaining calm and making lasting connections.
I have an open and compassionate style and am deeply committed to helping people know themselves better and handle any disruption in their lives. You don’t know what you don’t know, and my education and experience has made me realize that everyone can benefit from a little therapy now and then. I am committed to sharing what I have learned, so you can help yourself to live your best life.
I am an English-speaking Psychotherapist based in Spain, and I work with teenagers, adults, couples, families and groups on line.
